Back in November, the women of my family traveled from three different places and met up in Maui for a week of paradise and celebrating my mom’s birthday. Maui has such a diverse geography. Rainforests, volcanoes, and ocean fronts. It was truly beautiful.
One of the only things on my to-do list for this vacation was to learn how to surf and go surfing for the first time in Maui! So bright and early on my mom’s birthday, we piled into our SUV and trekked into Lahaina to Maui Wave Riders. The day before my mom and I had done a paddle boarding lesson, so we requested the same instructor, Sonny, for our surf lessons. After a quick tutorial on the beach, we were off to the ocean to catch our first wave!
Sonny would guide us along the wave, and let go of our board, and it was up to us to get up on our board and ride the wave to the shore! It definitely made surfing for the first time in Maui much easier, not having to time the waves ourselves. It really lets you experience surfing in the short two hours.
I’m no pro, but I definitely had the time of my life! I can’t wait to surf again, and learn how to time the waves. It truly was an experience to check off my bucket list!
Have you ever surfed? If so, where!
