It’s been a hot minute since we’ve done any blogging over here, but we have been hard at work switching our website to a platform and trying to build a routine with that lovely YouTube creator life we’re trying to embrace!
In this series, I’m going to be highlighting my favourite things from the month that have helped me be more productive, taught me important lessons, helped me be creatively inspired, or just all around took up some of my time. The four categories we’re going to look at each month are going to be:
Physical item
Book
Podcast
App
☞ Physical item
In the middle of April, we moved out of the beloved basement apartment I had been living in for the past five years and into a beautiful three-bedroom townhome. With the whole global pandemic, I had essentially been trapped inside for over a year with very minimal sunlight. Now, I know, I have the power to get out of the house all on my own, but let me tell you, my mental health was just not having it. This, ultimately, is ironic because had I just forced myself to go for walks I’m sure overall I would have felt much better too.
But, with that long intro for context, our physical item of the month is a smart power bar that I can control with an app on my phone! I’ve installed it in my office and it is so incredibly helpful for turning on and off my twinkle lights, which we all know is an iconic heyitsbex essential. The really neat thing about the power bar is that you’re able to turn off each outlet individually. It provides way more customized control, which is great!
? Book
Following the move, I completely crashed and zoned out for quite a few days. I did nothing but lay in my bed and bask in the sunlight that comes in my window. It seems like such a simple thing, but I hadn’t been able to do that for so long. While getting in some much-needed vitamin D, I started reading the Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn. I’m proud to say I finished every book in six days.
? Podcast
The podcast of the month is Brené Brown’s Unlocking Us podcast. I struggle to get podcast content into my daily life. I think my real issue is the fact I would opt to listen to YouTube videos instead. But, this month while cleaning the new house I thought to switch on a podcast. The episode of choice was Brené with Tim Ferris and Dax Shepard on Podcasting, Daily Practices, and the Long and Winding Path to Healing. It was an excellent conversation to listen to (on 2X speed of course!).
?App
This month’s app is an embarrassing one, but based on the time used, Double Down Casino takes the cake. During a conversation with my mom, we somehow got onto the topic of when we used to be able to go to the casino together (she loves the casino!). Anyway, it somehow prompted me to search the App Store for a slot machine game, which is how I stumbled upon Double Down. Had I realized I would sink endless hours into listening to the lights and sounds of a slot machine and gambling away fake money, I likely would have thought twice about downloading it.
Let me know your thoughts on my monthly favourites in the comments below! I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Bridgerton books or your favourite podcast recommendations.
