This is part five of my adventures into the world of dating apps. Read parts one, two, three and four to catch up on my adventures in the land of dating.
I’m not really sure when I met the hockey fan, but I remember his smile on his profile photo could steal hearts. It must have been his smile mixed with his rugged work vest, a little bit of scruff on his face, and his beautiful European skin tone.
We spent a few days chatting and I poked fun at him for being forced out to a bar after going to a hockey game with friends. To date, I haven’t enjoyed the social scene all that much. He said he wasn’t too fond of it either. Chatting was effortless with this hockey fan and I really appreciated his candor. It seemed like we were at the same point in our lives and looking for the same things.
I was pretty stoked about the potential of this Tinder match.
Flash forward a few days, he informed me he had made plans for us for Friday night. We were going to the hockey game!
What!
I was so excited. I had never been to a game before. I learned two things:
- Don’t agree to let strangers come pick you up on a first date, regardless of how excited you are. It leads to nothing but sheer panic.
- Meeting for the first time in a passenger seat is incredibly awkward.
The game was amazing. It was the first time Vegas was playing in Edmonton. The Oilers won. And somehow, he managed to score seats three rows up from the rink.
Sparks were flying. The night was magical.
Check back next month to see what happens with the hockey fan. I’m sure excited to see where it goes.
What was your most memorable first date? What made it so special?
